Of the Salzburg Archbishop Franz Lackner awarded Victor Baillou the highest diocesan award, the “Great Medal of Honor in Gold with Star of the Order of Merit of Saints Rupert and Virgil”. The archdiocese announced on Wednesday that the retired lawyer, CEO and philanthropist received the award, which Lackner presented for only the second time in his tenure, in recognition of, among other things, his generous support of educational projects in the archdiocese and beyond.
Baillou, from 2001 to 2015 Salzburg delegate of the Roman Catholic Order of the Knights of Malta, had supported, among other things, the Borromäum project with connection to the private educational institution for elementary education (BAfEP) in the city of Salzburg. “It is important to us to say a heartfelt ‘God forgive you’ in this way. I believe that the church has a lot to give to young people with Christian education. You have made a significant contribution to this with your generosity,” thanked him Archbishop Lackner.
“In addition to merits in the parish, the decoration of Saints Rupert and Virgil also honors diocesan merits, i.e. works that serve the common good and the general public. This applies in particular to the award in large gold with a star,” emphasized Elisabeth Kandler-Mayr , Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Salzburg. Baillou supported educational projects in the Archdiocese of Salzburg without making a fuss about it. “They support one task of the church, namely the promotion of teaching and sanctification,” said Kandler-Mayr.
