Research: YouTubers provide 7,700 extra jobs in the Netherlands

That appears from an investigation that YouTube had carried out in the Netherlands by Oxford Economics. The 165 million euros is only about the result of the work by Dutch video makers, not about the economic contribution of YouTube itself. The amount would be with what is annually spent on Dutch film productions.

The additional jobs arise, for example, YouTubers hire third-party services and products from removal, for example sound or film equipment or services around video production and editing.

Also, YouTubers have income outside the video platform thanks to their channel. As examples Oxford Economics a creative entrepreneur who gets paid to brand on YouTube tutorials and a musician who converts more fan merchandise.

Tap into a global audience

According to Google, Dutch video makers are able to tap into an international audience with YouTube. More than three quarters of YouTubers say that the video site allows them to offer content to ‘an international audience where they would otherwise have no access’. “More than 80 percent of the time content produced by channels in the Netherlands comes from outside the Netherlands,” Oxford Economics writes in the report. According to YouTube CEO Pedro Pina, YouTube provides “a connection between Dutch makers and the rest of the world”.

The survey also found that 80 percent use YouTube to gather information and knowledge. Also, 69 percent of teachers who use YouTube say they show YouTube videos in class.
