“The coronavirus has posed major challenges to almost every economy worldwide and has left many people unemployed. As the federal government, it was our task to keep as many people as possible in employment, “it said in a broadcast.
It is gratifying that we have fallen below the pre-crisis level of 2019 for the first time since the beginning of the crisis. There are currently 268,028 people unemployed. That is 1,129 less than in the comparison week 2019. The positive development is a clear signal for the high dynamics on AM. 1/2

Austria is recovering from the consequences of corona
The measures could have taken effect and Austria is recovering faster than expected from the consequences of the global economic crisis. That today, for the first time, faster than expected, fewer people before the crisis, is very gratifying. In addition, we would have a record of job vacancies.
“The economy continues to grow and we have to ensure that those who can work now go to work, that the vacancies are filled and that the upswing is popular with everyone,” said Chancellor Kurz.
Unemployment continues to decline
Unemployment has again been reduced significantly by around 4,600 people within the last week. There are currently 67,030 people in training. Compared to the previous year 2020, around 78,200 fewer people are registered as unemployed with the AMS.
Pre-crisis level reached
“The positive development on the labor market is a clear signal of how dynamic the labor market is. We reached the pre-crisis level much faster than originally. We are now continuing to focus on qualification measures and reducing long-term unemployment. The overcoming of the crisis on the labor market also shows once again that now is the right time to restart a reform dialogue on unemployment insurance, ”said Labor Minister Martin Kocher.
“The registrations for short-time work are currently at 62,387, although the classic monthly accounts are decisive,” the Minister of Labor continued. Registrations for short-time work usually increase slightly while the application phase is ongoing, because companies, out of caution, apply for short-time work and then often do not make use of it.
Record number of vacancies
“With currently around 120,000 vacancies, we also have a record number of vacancies across Austria, although there are regional differences. While there are jobs in Vienna, companies in many other federal states are increasingly looking for qualified workers. In order to bring companies and employees together in the best possible way and to counteract the labor shortage, we organize many job exchanges in cooperation with the MS. At the same time it is the goal, also in the context of unemployment insurance.
