The dresses of the Palais Galliera, the mold reserves of the Bourdelle Museum, the architecture of the Petit Palais … Christelle Téa invites us to rediscover the emblematic museums of the capital through her drawings rich in detail and inimitable style. She will meet us at the Cognacq-Jay Museum from September 9, 2021 to January 2, 2022 to admire her “Drawn Museums” for free.

Remember her name: this young artist is about to conquer the world of art. In fact, the museums of the City of Paris already have no secrets for her … For a season, Christelle Théa walked the alleys of 14 Parisian museums, reproducing under its pencils the atmosphere, the identity, the activity which animates these places of culture.

A crossing free exhibition presented from September 9, 2021 to January 2, 2022, at Cognacq-Jay Museum, Christelle Téa reveals her Drawn museums, a series of works that immerse us in the life of these museums that we have visited so many times.

Exhibitions, workshops, works, reserves and slides, architecture and works of art … The artist mixes portraits, life scenes and landscapes in a single drawing, thus managing to reproduce on paper the life that animates these essential museums of Paris. Palais Galliera, Zadkine workshop-museum, Victor Hugo’s house, Carnavalet museum, Archaeological crypt, Small palace, Bourdelle museum, Cernuschi museum … Each drawing by Christelle Téa is a universe in its own right, both very realistic and a little fantastic.

The fine lines and the myriad of details to be discovered in each work invite us to dive into these lively settings and to explore again these museums which have served as models.

These drawings, made in India ink, are sketched freehand, on the spot, without preparatory study. The scenes reproduced in this way become extremely living and animated, like a snapshot of an entire day. This is the magic and the poetry which shine through through the talent of Christelle Théa : the designer says she captures the soul of each place and the visitors who bring it to life on a simple sheet of paper.

“Like a photographic snapshot, I freeze the decorations in my drawing, with the ambition of restoring all the details, sometimes historical, sometimes contemporary. I always start from a detail: complex organic shapes call out to me most often », Explains the artist.

To complete this exhibition, Christelle Téa unveils exclusively at the Cognacq-Jay museum 20 self-portraits, where she meets on stage with her personal collection of bibis. Splashes of color in watercolor give a joyful aspect to these self-portraits, in a collection of works produced in black and white. The exhibition ends with a video which traces the working season that the artist spent in Parisian museums to prepare for this hanging.
