Once founded as an aid organization for war veterans and survivors of the 19th and 20th centuries, the Salzburger Kameradschaftsbund will now focus more on the general public and offer a wide range of help in the coronavirus pandemic.

“That is actually the very own thought that the comradeship had. The comrades helped each other after the chaos of the war and the leagues were always created in retrospect. We now want to continue that we miss each other when someone is in need, whether financially or socially, “explains the President of the Comradeship Association at Josef Hohenwarter, the 35th international peace pilgrimage on Sunday in Maria Plain (Flachgau).

“It is more and more important to help out in society”

The Comradeship Association has 35,000 members in the province of Salzburg alone. “It is often said that it is a club that is no longer up to date, but I think that it is becoming more and more important that there are clubs like the Kameradschaftsbund. We have to show that it is becoming more and more important to help in this society and to have peace, friendship and security together, ”says Peter Neudegger from the Kameradschaftsbund Großarl.

The peace pilgrimage on Sunday was framed by the Salzburg Military Music. Due to the corona, there were largely no comradeship associations from other European countries this year, but the Bavarians did come. The peace pilgrimage ended with a wreath-laying ceremony. SHE is supposed to remind of fallen and deceased comrades and also to be a reminder for peace and reconciliation.

Peace pilgrimage of the Comradeship Association

The 35th International Peace Pilgrimage of the Comradeship Association took place in Maria Plain today. Originally designed to help war veterans and survivors in the 19th and 20th centuries, the aim is now to extend the aid more to the general public.
