A short list of some of our most favorite wine bars in the city that with their updated menus and their nice atmosphere manage to put us more smoothly in the fall. The first wine bar of the center continues to behave steadily in our hangouts. On its sidewalk, two steps from Syntagma, we always find impressive proposals with an emphasis on the international vineyard, with the list including at least forty different choices by the glass each time. The award-winning sommelier and co-owner Aris Sklavenitis always recommends us interesting labels, while the food menu will not leave anyone complaining. The cellar-cellar in the basement is definitely worth a visit.

- Heteroclito in Syntagma: for Greek wines of limited production
Its style is bohemian and similarly brings to mind France, the Heleroclito hosts mostly Greek wines. This summer, nine years of life ended on the -optimal for the idiot- pedestrian street of Fokionos, next to Ermou, having now become a classic meeting point for the wine-loving public in the center. Affordable, hospitable and open to all, it always has a special indigenous variety to recommend, many times next to rare labels of limited production, they were not missing and were never interested in “natural” wines. We learn that already this month he starts again the main thematic units we were used to, this time with suggestions of Master of Wine Konstantinos Lazarakis.

- Materia Prima in Koukaki and Pagrati: wines of small producers from all over the world
Slightly away from the busiest part of Pagrati, in Messolonghi square, where the small inhabitants of the neighborhood go out to play, it was set up in the second Materia Prima (the first one we find in Koukaki). The whole team, from the creator Michalis Papatsimba to the sommelier and the rest of the staff, is a noble and friendly thing that is offered to the trump card of the store. In the wine list we find wines of small producers from all over the world, grouped based on their characteristics.
One of the categories we loved recently was “Red for summer nights”. Also interesting are the side dishes with seasonal ingredients as well as the delicate corner and the cellar with over 300 labels that are also available for the house at lower prices.

- Inferior does wine: value For money labels
The atmosphere at Junior does wine is more like a house balcony than a wine bar. Apart from the smaller space outside the store, it also spreads tables on the opposite sidewalk – surprisingly quiet despite the proximity to Michalakopoulou. The value for money labels of small and new producers from Greece and abroad on the basis of the catalog that includes 60 wines in a bottle and 12 choices in a glass themselves are frequently renewed. Bruschettas and two or three side dishes that are eaten by hand complete the menu.

- Karolos Wine Bar: the “hangout” of small producers
It takes a couple of walks up and down Homer to locate him, but that is his advantage. Hidden in the green atrium of a shopping center, low tones and decorative references to the 60s, it proposes labels from all the wine-producing regions of Greece, among the latest and interested varieties from small producers. You will enjoy from a Chardonnay barrel or an Assyrtiko Santorini to a Kidonitsa or a Lagorthi. A separate list for lovers of natural and orange wines is coming soon. For side dishes: skewers with mushrooms, Cycladic cheeses and cold cuts from Northern Greece, hearty salads or a delicious pinch, the Roman, light version of pizza.

- Manouka: drinking overlooking the Acropolis
Seven floors above the roar of Ermos you will find over a hundred Greek labels to enjoy while gazing at the panoramic view, with the Acropolis within walking distance. Head sommelier Vassilis Papadopoulos recommends lesser known varieties such as Petroulianos and Sklava and repeats the most famous and popular ones like Malagouzia. If you are hungry there is also a complete food menu which revolves around Greek PDO products.

- Tannin my love: the most instagram wine city bars
Design and instagram, although it does not remain only in appearance. Its inspirer, Stergios Tekeridis, suggests 120 different Greek, all available in a glass in the quantities of 75 and 150 ml (they have placed special emphasis on their proper maintenance after opening the bottle). The collection also includes mildly natural wines, while you do not want to buy some of them for off-site consumption, at retail prices. For the side: from local cheeses and cold cuts to handmade pies.

- Old: one sui generis wine bars in the industrial zone of Piraeus
In the industrial zone of Piraeus, just above the port, between engineering and warehouses, it opened a few years ago in Paleo, in an old warehouse as well. It soon became the quietest, most remote and atmospheric hangout for wine must. The owner is one of the most respected sommelier in the country, Giannis Kaimenakis, a great caretaker, who has curated a unique list of wines from Greece, the Mediterranean and Europe.

- With The Glass: 200 wines available by the glass
Explore the impressive list of more than 500 labels, 200 of which are also available by the glass. Among them you will find old years of the foreign vineyard, as well as old Greek crops, magnum, dozens of champagnes and sparkling wines, spirits and dessert wines. In addition to the tables inside the Rally, from spring to October it serves in the small garden of the adjacent square where the Russian church of the Holy Trinity is located.
