In Hallein (Tennengau) passers-by saved a slightly injured, very tired and hungry Border Collie at a supermarket. The male was searched for days. As it turned out later, Alex was on the long way home from Flachgau to Pongau. The owner was investigated via the implanted chip.
The mountain farmer and cattle breeder Sebastian Windhofer in Pfarrwerfen (Pongau) could embrace his ten-year-old darling again on Tuesday. Alex had been missing since last Saturday. At the weekend, the family asked the animal search team at the ORF regional studio in Salzburg for help. For Alex there were then search messages on regional radio and on the internet at salzburg.ORF.at
Homesick for Pfarrwerfen?
The odyssey of the trusting lasted three days and three nights. It started like this: over the weekend he was visiting farmer Windhofer’s daughter. She lives in Eugendorf (Flachgau). From there, Alex was supposed to be taken back to Pfarrwerfen in the car on Sunday evening. For the experienced drover it was evidently much too slow. Maybe homesick too? Boredom? The impatience that is common among these often hard-working canine people? So he set off in Eugendorf on Saturday to set off for Pongau himself.
On the way he fielded
On the way, neighbors and passers-by were seen several times. His route led through Hallwang, the city of Salzburg, Elsbethen, Puch and Oberalm, before he could be “arrested” in front of the supermarket in Hallein. Passers-by petted and fed the tramp before the chip was read with the help of a veterinarian.
Search reports on Radio Salzburg and on the web
With this photo from the archive of the owner family, ORF Radio Salzburg’s animal search had been “looking” for the Strawanzer on the Internet since the weekend:
Alex has a partner at home
The pastor farmer Windhofer emphasizes that Alex has very likely recognized the way home in the direction of Pongau: “He has often been to Eugendorf with us, and Border Collies are very intelligent. We also have a bitch who also lives on our farm. We used to breed with both of them. Now they are already too old for children, but they are still very active, curious and travel a lot. “
