Minutemen opens the season with overtime pay

The start of the 2021-2022 season for the Lexington Boys Basketball team needed a little extra time on Thursday, but eventually went in favor of the visiting squad in Gothenburg. Minutemen deducted in overtime and won 54-48 over the Swedes.

“We got a little tired in the fourth quarter and it turned out,” Lexington coach Zach Jones explained. “They are a pretty physical team and we could not play as many guys as I wanted.

“But it’s a good start to the season. We have some things we need to work on.”

Early in the game, Jones and his coaching staff could be heard coaching the team for “not trying to do too much.”

“I think it’s part of the first game,” Jones explained. “Once we calmed down, we played better.”

Lexington led at the end of the first quarter, 11-10, thanks in part to a three-pointer from junior Daud Dud with two seconds left before the break.
