Toulouse. This unknown park of Toulouse will be rehabilitated after incivilities

” It’s the neighborhood green lung“, loose a local resident before continuing: “We had to change things so that he regains all his interest for the inhabitants. ” The Gironis Park is a real little green setting nestled in one of the oldest districts of Toulouse, and perhaps one of the least known toothe Lafourguette districtsouthwest of the city.
A green setting with a small water point, the lake of Gironis, some trees, games for children, which form despite the proximity of the highway, a beautiful space of tranquility.
A construction site since November
This park, however, has lost some of that tranquility in recent months. In question, the arrival of many machines of worksite for a “great rehabilitation”. “The objective is to return this park to inhabitants of the neighborhood”, as explained Nina Ochoathe neighborhood mayor.

Because in recent years, the park has lost a bit of meaning. The rodeos had become commonplace, people arriving by quad or motorbike and taking advantage of some gravel areas to realize skids and waterfalls of all kinds.
Access to vehicles now impossible
However, “it’s a unique space in our neighborhood”, explains Alain Boubee, president of the association of inhabitants of the Lafourguette district, “we had to find an appropriate use of this park, create facilities so that people who consume care”.
So after several months of discussions and of consultations between the inhabitants and the town hall, projects will see the light of day by spring 2023. First, motorized vehicle access will be totally prevented by a whole series of blockages.
To this is added facilities, in particular concerning access for people with reduced mobility, the improvement of children’s play areas, the creation of a walk around Lake, of one dry garden where everyone can come and get some herbs or even the planting of a beadle and the creation of a canipark. Total price of this rehabilitation: 450,000 euros.
An orchard, a garden… and the police!
It was the planting of the first tree that brought the mayor of the city, Jean-Luc Moudenc the 1uh February 2023. A plum tree which will figure among the ten or so fruit trees (mandarin, fig, apple, cherry, etc.) and nearly 200 new trees planted altogether in the park.

A visit that allowed the association of residents, despite a marked enthusiasm for the project, to ask for a little more. ” One basket court for young people”, “a noise barrier on the edges of the highway”, “containers to avoid waste everywhere”…
“Not right away” see respond to local residents. The only certainty and assurance on the political side, slightly more regular crossings of the police “with a lot of pedagogy at the beginning, against incivility of all kinds”, promised the mayor. In order to return the park to inhabitants, and that they can benefit from it.
