Incredible, this 1 euro of San Marino is worth €200: that’s what
The history of the monetary issues of the Republic of San Marino, considered one of the smallest states and autonomous entities in the world, has always maintained a conceptual form that incorporates the structure of the very small republic located between the Marches and Emilia-Romagna, also considered the first form of “true” Republic in the western world, and even since the arrival of the euro the situation has not changed.
Incredible, this 1 euro of San Marino is worth €200: that’s what
In fact, the small republic, which had previously used its own versions of the lire for a long time, “interchangeable” with the Italian ones, has had recourse to the euro since 2002 with its own emissions, even though it is not nominally part of the European Union, as in the case of Monaco or the Vatican City.
Given the very small territorial extension, the San Marino issues are minted at the Rome mint and since they are much smaller editions than in the larger nations, these are the ones most sought after by collectors and numismatics enthusiasts.
Among the 1 euro coins of San Marino, some forms cannot but be mentioned, such as that of the “first type”, which simply presents the Coat of Arms of the Republic of San Marino with the three central towers, a representation maintained until 2007, when it was replaced from the new representation that presents the Broken Tower which is the Second Tower of San Marino.
In particular, the 1 euro coin from 2002, which is on average worth more from a collectors point of view, is the most interesting as it is worth between 10 and 30 euros if in excellent condition.
This specific coin is even more valid if it presents a very rare minting error, i.e. if the year of minting is missing, generally present, as shown in the image, on the left side of the coat of arms. In this case it is a very rare issue, and can even be sold for 200 euros, if it is in truly excellent condition.
