“I’ll break you”: Charges against 33-year-old Afghan man for attempted murder
The trial of an alleged attempted murder will take place today and tomorrow at the Salzburg regional court. A 33-year-old Afghan citizen is accused. He is said to have shot his brother on July 12, 2022.
SALZBURG. The victim of the incident is said to have suffered a gunshot wound in the abdomen from the handgun. However, the shot was not aimed directly at him, but ricocheted off a wall and hit him. Drugs are said to have played a role in the conflict. Furthermore, the accused is also said to have threatened witnesses by telephone and later seriously injured one.
The incident
According to a report by the Salzburg police at the time, the violent incident between the two brothers took place on July 12, 2022. That evening, the argument broke out on a public street in the Neustadt district of Salzburg. The 29-year-old victim reported to the police at the time and said he had been shot. When the police got to the scene, however, no one was there. When he was called back, the man refused to provide any further information. Two hours later, the accident hospital in Salzburg reported to the police. A man is being treated for a gunshot wound to the abdomen. After the outpatient treatment, the injured person then left the hospital at his own request. He previously stated that his brother shot him with a hand-sized gun.
The arrest
The then 32-year-old brother of the victim was found at the prosecutor’s office at his home address the following morning on July 13 and arrested.
When he was arrested, he admitted that he had had a pistol with him that “somehow went off”. He did not want to explain the exact course of action at the time. In general, the course of the crime could not be determined exactly at the time. According to the police, both brothers got caught up in some contradictions in their statements.

Today the accused 33-year-old Afghan had to answer to the regional court for attempted murder. He has five prior convictions for burglary and gun possession. In the attempted dispute in front of an illegal betting shop, he carried a Category B handgun despite a gun ban. He is said to have shot his brother in the stomach with it. However, he is said not to have shot him directly. Instead, he hit a wall and the ricochet hit his brother. Drugs are also believed to have played a role in the dispute.
Furthermore, the accused is also accused of phoning a witness with the words “I won’t leave you alone, you will be punished like him. I’ll break you.” These witnesses are said to have met them personally and seriously injured them. He struck an existing surgical wound on the victim’s head.
