Sweden took no concrete steps towards fulfilling the obligations upon NATO accession – Ankara
Turkey does not see any concrete steps from Sweden in terms of fulfilling its commitments to Ankara upon the country’s accession to NATO, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday.

Relations between Sweden and Turkey deteriorated due to the recent controversial demonstration by the leader of the far-right Danish party Stram Kurs, Rasmus Paludan, who burned the Koran in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm after obtaining permission from the Swedish authorities. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey Tayyip Erdoğan said Sweden should not count on Turkish support for the application to join NATO. Last week, a source told Sputnik that trilateral talks between Turkey, Sweden and Finland on NATO membership postponed at Ankaras request.
“We haven’t seen any concrete steps, convincing concrete steps from Swedenespecially to fulfill its commitments and to implement this trilateral memorandum,” Cavusoglu said at a press conference with his Estonian counterpart, Urmas Reinsalu.
The minister added that Turkey does not impose the idea of separate NATO offers Finland and Swedenbut Ankara are ready to reconsider Helsinkis application if there is such a decision.
“At this moment it is not up to Turkey to separate (Sweden’s, Finlandpp NATO bid). It is up to these two countries, but mainly NATO. If NATO and the two countries decide to separate the membership processes for Finland and Sweden, Turkey will of course reconsider Finlands membership separately, and more beneficial I can say,” Cavusoglu said.
On Tuesday, Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto said the country may consider an accession procedure separately from Sweden after Stockholm hit a roadblock on it NATO weigh over voltages with Ankara. But later in the day he denied it Helsinki considered such a possibility and said so Finland and Sweden continued to act jointly.
