Prime Minister Daniel Risch met Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Finance Minister Yuriko Backes on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
The two heads of government exchanged views on the Ukraine war and the associated sanctions against Russia. Luxembourg also expressed interest in the Liechtenstein Languages project in connection with the accommodation and integration of those seeking protection from Ukraine. Other topics were the free movement of services and cooperation between small states in Europe. In discussions with Finance Minister Yuriko Backes, Liechtenstein’s accession to the IMF, cooperation with the EEA and international developments in the tax area were discussed.
“The bilateral exchange with Luxembourg has traditionally been of great importance to Liechtenstein,” explained Prime Minister Daniel Risch after the meeting. “As an international financial center in Europe, Luxembourg is confronted with similar challenges to Liechtenstein. Regular meetings allow us to discuss technical issues and strengthen friendly relations.”
