Escalators, neon lights, pensions in the pipeline. With Blou labut, the future was drunk to Prague
The Bl labu store and its history became the inspiration for the new TV series Nova (see box).
Bl labu has been a full-range department store throughout its existence. A functionalist tower made of glass and reinforced concrete, it was the oldest and most modern department store in Prague at the time. When it was opened in 1939, this building attracted a lot of attention from the architects Josef Kittrich and Josef Hrubho. The Zazen interior was designed by academic architect Jan Gillar.
The store was the flagship of the Brouk and Babka company, which owned and operated department stores. It contained several technological innovations.
Pneumatic cash registers were unique in Europe and were used here for the first time. Each store department was connected by a special pipe to the central checkout on the fifth floor.
The advertising lighting was also unusual, dominated by eight-meter neon lights. The capacity and speed of the elevator and escalators (and 4 thousand people per hour) were remarkable in those days.
Starring Zlat labuNova Television has prepared the premiere of its first original period series since November 2. He sent it to the Voyo platform. He was screwing up names Golden lip and first about the fate of the people connected with the department store of the same name, which in its time was a unique temple of shopping and luxury in Slovakia. The creators of the series were inspired by the real Bl laba department store, which opened a few days after the occupation. |
There was air conditioning inside, and escalators were also new, which had never before been installed inside the building, added architectural historian Zdenk Luke.
In total, the building had eleven floors, two of which were underground. Above the sixth administrative floor was a three-story building with a terrace, which was accessible to the public at the time. On the second floor there was a terrace for the employees, who could spend their lunch break under the sun on the chairs.
Bl laba grew up in the town, where a one-story house with a run-down inn stood next to the once frequented merchant route. There was a famous antenna in the house, which moved to Ostrovn Street in the 1880s, but until 1937 the famous U Labut cabaret remained in it.
From 1910, the house also housed the Invalid cinema. In the 1930s, the house was bought by Jaroslav Brouk, a well-known entrepreneur from Prague, in order to build a modern mall in its place.
He demolished the old building in 1937 and erected a modern one in its place in 25 months. Since then, the store has undergone several long renovations. He served his elu even during the bval regime.
In recent years, however, this classic shopping center has been struggling with new modern centers built mostly on the outskirts of big cities, which offer shoppers more comfort and more services.
Bl labu in nov
Since 1991, the Bl labu department store has been owned and operated by the Czech company Transakta a.s. (two Rephana a.s.). During this time, several important changes took place in Bl Labuti, and the range of sales floors and individual stores changed.
Among these changes, the interior of the mezzanine between the ground floor and the first floor of the department store and the installation of two new escalator arms between these floors can be changed.
And thanks to this, among other things, it led to the creation of a very interesting aesthetic element, the concept of which was connected to the original old escalator from 1939, which was originally located in this place. According to Dolo, a large-scale food supermarket was created in the very first basement of the department store, which today is operated by the Lidl company.
The whole reconstruction of the department store, which took place under the baton of the architect Marek Tich and his TaK Architects studio, is a very complicated construction project due to its historical values and a long-term preparation and will be completed after hundreds of years.
Recently, the renovation of the unique perimeter fence, crossing to Na Po Street and the right parterre, was completed. Shortly before the implementation, there is a transformation of the internal vertical lenn, which removes the influences from the second half of the last century and gives the department store some generosity of sales floors, to the architect Marek Tich, adding that after the implementation of each stage, the influence on the structural system and architecture is reassessed.
The basic principle is to preserve the original function of the object, i.e. not to look for an alternative program for it, which would mean significant changes. This is also remarkable and noteworthy from the point of view of the reconstruction of traditional department stores in the center of Prague, to Tich and according to the description of the stages of reconstruction.
In the phase of discussion and currently detailed design preparation is the project for the development of related land and buildings, which historically complemented the Bl labut area, represented the various functions of the city and thus the potential for development, to which, due to the influence of circumstances after 1939 never mined, dodv architect.
The project continues on the vision of the building’s author that the building must be functional and have the ability to graduate in time.
Therefore, the cultivation of the inner block, its transformation into public space, the creation of a new city pass, the construction of new city amenities, commercial and leisure activities are part of the preparation of the city’s conversion. Spread investments in the hundreds of millions to spend several years of work.
