Tram in Wilanów. In mid-February, major changes in traffic organization
The construction of tram tracks to Wilanów is entering the next stage. From February 11, the construction of the square will increase, which means big changes for drivers and public transport.

Ultimately, the contractor for construction works, Budimex, the branch works on the entire closed area of Jana III Sobieskiego Street and Aleja Jerozolimskie between van Beethovena and Branickiego Streets. First, locate the reconstruction of the water supply and drainage, and then the process of rebuilding the heat pipelines will begin. It will involve the execution of deep excavations and their protection. Further works for the reconstruction of electrical installations. All of them have been planned for the turn of April and May.
According to officials, the time to rebuild the main pipes supplying this part of Warsaw with heat is very short. Attachments can be used from June to August. Until then, the contractor must complete the preparatory work.

The bus lane, which today runs towards the center between van Beethovena and Dolna Streets, has been extended since February 18 to Aleja Wilanowska. Nearly 50 WTP buses run in the direction of the city center during rush hour on Jana III Sobieskiego Street. These vehicles are able to transport almost 6,000 vehicles in a few hours. Thanks to the bus lane, buses will move more efficiently.
From February 13, Wilanów’s new support for the M1 metro line was provided by buses 217 on an extended route. They will not end the route at the loop at Sarmacka Street, only from the intersection of al. Rzeczpospolita with Branickiego Street, they will go to Płaskowicka, Cynamonowa, Ghandi to the Imielin metro station. Thanks to this, from this part of Wilanów, from one stop (at the intersection of Aleja Jerozolimskie and Al. Branickiego), the bus will travel to the Imielin station by buses of three lines – 217, 263 and 319. During the morning rush hour, the bus will depart with it every 4-5 minutes, and the trip to the subway by car is 10-15 minutes. At Imielin, the buses of these three lines set off towards Wilanów also because of the stop.
You will still be able to get to the Wilanowska metro station by bus line 217 – this part of the route does not change.
Buses number 522 go to the center from this part of Wilanów. During the morning rush hours, they leave for Śródmieście every 4-5 minutes – the timetable does not change with the beginning of the winter holidays; Course courses on school days will maintain.
will the E-2 line (from the Wilanów loop to the center) be affected – in connection with what is happening in the traffic on ul. Jan III Sobieski, this line will also be available during the holidays.
Lines 522 and E-2 serving 18-meter buses, and for all other routes, WTP tries to drive vehicles within a 12-meter line.
The final section of bus routes of line 172 has also been changed from work. Since it will be impossible to turn from ul. Jan III Sobieski to the left – in św. Bonifacego, the buses will turn right and reach the Stegny terminus, not the Sadyba terminus.
Changes for drivers
The next stages of changes in the organization of traffic, related to the construction of the tram route to Wilanów, will begin with the beginning of the winter holidays. On the night of February 10 to February 11, traffic will be shifted to Jana III Sobieskiego Street from the eastern to the western carriageway, on the section from the intersection with Van Beethovena Street to the intersection with Witosa Street.
On February 15, at night (under favorable conditions), traffic will be switched on from the eastern to the western carriageway in Sobieskiego Street, from the intersection with Witosa Street to the intersection with Aleja Wilanowska. In the middle of the holidays (weekend of February 18-19) there will be a change of traffic in Aleje Rzeczpospolita: at the high level from al. Wilanowska to Klimczaka Street from the eastern to the western sidewalk, and then to the quality from ul. Klimczaka to Branickiego Street – from the western roadway to the eastern roadway.
The first works involving the introduction of temporary traffic organization are already underway. From February 7, the general contractor’s teams will start with vertical markings, and then from the intersection of Sobieskiego Street and Van Beethovena Street. The dates given may change the change – in the event of snow or rain or severe frost.
By tram to Wilanowa
After finding the first construction site in mid-2024, the travel time of Wilanów residents to the city center will be shortened. A tram ride from this district to the Centrum metro station will take about 25 minutes. The route to Wilanów will have two branches: only Gagarina Street and only św. Boniface.

The tram to Wilanów will be launched in the first half of 2024. The contractor is the Budimex SA company, which also plans to build a pedestrian and bicycle bridge from Prague to the city center.
