The Municipality of Siena will celebrate the “Day of Remembrance”
On February 10, Siena will also celebrate the “Day of Remembrance”, to preserve and renew the memory of the tragedy of the Italians and all the victims of the sinkholes, from the exodus of the Istrians, Fiume and Dalmatians from their lands in the post-war period. I
The Municipality of Siena, represented by the mayor Luigi De Mossi, by the council and by the municipal councilors, will lay a wreath at the time in the “Norma Cossetto” park in Piazza Amendola at 12.30. In the afternoon at 17.30 at the Municipal Library of the Intronati, Professor Raffaele Ascheri, president of the institution, will hold a conference entitled “Le Foibe, an Italian tragedy too long forgotten”.
“Remembering – declares the mayor of Siena Luigi De Mossi – means respecting, honoring and understanding the suffering of a people and the drama of a historical period that we do not want to relive. The dead and pain have no color: we must know history and make it known to the younger generations to avoid the mistakes made.
We named a park in Siena after Norma Cossetto, a 23-year-old compatriot of ours who fell victim to communist totalitarianism. On February 10, we remember and, once again, we condemn the political forms that have always imposed the thought of her by force, even at the cost of our lives ”.
