Some people see Árpád Square as a garbage dump
The park at Árpád tér is very littered, several people from the neighborhood carry the waste there – complained one of our readers. He also added that this had been reported to the municipality several times. We asked the mayor’s office how often the area is cleaned, and whether there is a plan to solve the problem – of course, the real solution would be if no one littered the public area.
“The municipality of Debrecen is looking for a solution to the problem expressed by the reader, as every Debrecen citizen and guest coming to the city has a legitimate expectation to be surrounded by an orderly, clean environment. The maintenance of the city’s public areas is carried out in the framework of a park maintenance and public cleaning business contract. Árpád tér is cleaned and disinfected twice a week, according to the schedule, and trash receptacles with a sufficient number and capacity of municipal containers are placed in the area. If necessary, the contractor works in addition to the technical content of the contract, so that garbage does not accumulate on the square, and in the case of illegal waste placement, line-by-line cleaning is also carried out beyond the schedule.
According to experience, several homeless citizens live in Árpád Square, which makes it difficult to keep it constantly clean and to solve the problem in full and permanently. The municipality of Debrecen, in cooperation with many civil organizations, is trying to help improve the lives of those living without a roof,” says the response of the mayor’s office.
