Salzburg economy: “The will to start a business in Salzburg is unbroken”
Even in times of crisis, the people of Salzburg dare to take the step into entrepreneurship, and this also applies to start-ups.
SALZBURG. The price increases and multiple crises do not seem to have stopped the people of Salzburg from looking for a way into self-employment in 2022. “The will to start a business is unbroken in Salzburg,” says Lorenz Maschke, the start-up representative at the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce. In the start-up program for which he is responsible, he notices: “Demand is not going down.”
Foundations are not decreasing
The figures from the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce (WKS) confirm this impression. In 2022, 2,241 people decided to found their own company.
“It seems to me that people in the crisis think: ‘Now or never.'”
-Lorenz Maschke
In the WKS start-up service, 2,181 people were advised who obtained information on the subject of self-employment; in 2021 there were still 2,020 people.
“Particularly well represented among young entrepreneurs are IT service providers, management consultants, mail order companies, direct sales and advertising agencies,” says Peter Kober, head of the WKS start-up service.
More and more women
What is striking about the start-ups: More and more women are daring to take the step into entrepreneurship. At 49.7 percent, the proportion of women among young entrepreneurs in Salzburg in 2022 reached a new record. In 2021, the proportion was still 46.8 percent.
