Portugal has 327 varieties of fruit trees registered this year – Economy
The National Register of Fruit Varieties (RNVF) contains “327 varieties, of which 325 with responsibility for fruit production and two with double coverage, covering 12 proponents and 12 responsible for maintenance”.
In this edition, a variety of avocado tree — Jordana.
The apple tree continues to appear in greater numbers (139), with varieties such as Aristides, Carneira, Gronho, Lapa, Moleirinha, Olho de Boi, Maria Rosa, Piparote, Tromba de Boi or Zé Pereira.
Next comes the olive tree with 65 varieties, including Cornalhuda, Judiaga and Orelha de Mula; the pear tree with 28 varieties, such as Bela Feia and Torrão de Açúcar, and the chestnut tree with 26 inscriptions, including Martaínha and Colarinha.
With 16 varieties, the fig tree appears, such as Pingo de Mel and Princesa; and with 12 nominations appears almond tree, which includes Galamba or Zé Dias.
Below 10 and up to five entries are cherry (seven), orange (six), sour cherry (five), strawberry (five) and plum (five).
In turn, the quince tree has two varieties entered in this edition, namely De Portugal and Gamboa.
Already with an inscription appear the walnut tree, Madeira blueberry, persimmon tree, mandarin tree, mandarin tree, lemon tree, lemon balm, hazel tree and avocado tree.
The varieties listed in this catalog are intended for the production of fruits or rootstocks, have a person responsible for the maintenance selection and are considered “distinct, sufficiently homogeneous and stable”.
The DGAV is a central service of the direct administration of the State, with administrative autonomy.
