Gorter knew after one conversation with Schreuder that he had better leave Ajax
Jay Gorter started the new good season at Ajax full of courage. The goalkeeper, however, made no impression against PSV (3-5 defeat) in the duel for the Johan Cruijff Scale and then trainer Alfred Schreuder immediately went to Remko Pasveer to start the new season in the Eredivisie. Gorter was told a day before the meeting with Fortuna Sittard on August 6 that he would not play.
“It was a rotten period,” said Gorter in the Tuesday Transfer Deadline Show van ESPN to the first weeks of this season. “That match (against PSV, ed.) Was not great, especially if you come from Go Ahead Eagles where everything went great. Then at some point you also know that you are going to get a dip and I also felt that dip. was also clearly visible in me at that time. After that I developed myself to pick up. The fact that Ajax wanted to sign (until 2026, ed.) Is a price on top of which I have always persevered. “
Jay Gorter hardly got a chance under Alfred Schreuder:
“If you are already victimized after a duel…”

Pasveer didn’t really know where he stood when Gerónimo Rulli signed for Ajax. On the studio bus ESPN men want to know how Gorter was told that he had passed. “I immediately had a conversation with the trainer (Schreuder, ed.) after the Johan Cruijff Scale. He actually only indicated that he did not know what he was going to do. That he wanted to watch it for a week. And then I heard a heard the day before that he put me on the bench (against Fortuna, ed.). I did not agree with that as a player. Of course I could not look back on a great performance, I would have preferred to have done a lot better”, looks the keeper critical of his own contribution.
“At that moment I felt that I had no chance. After that match (against PSV, ed.) It was already clear to me that I wanted to play minutes elsewhere. If you are already victimized after a match, then it is quite clear that you have to look for playing minutes elsewhere.” Six months later, at about the same time as Schreuder’s dismissal, Gorter finally got the opportunity to temporarily leave Ajax. The 22-year-old goalkeeper finishes the season on a rental basis with the Scottish Aberdeen.
Chapter Ajax not yet closed
Gorter sure that the departure from Ajax does not feel like a huge relief. “I’ve always had a good time, otherwise I wouldn’t have signed for another year, believe me. The people at Ajax have always been good, I can’t say anything about that. I only left for playing time and to come back stronger to come.” Gorter can already make his debut for Aberdeen on Wednesday evening in the game against St. Mirren. “If the coach chooses me, of course.”
