Croatia Rally has a significant economic impact on the local economy
The University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Economics reported in January that hosting the WRC had an extremely positive effect on Croatia’s tourism sector, with more than 300,000 spectators spending €105 million in the Central European country.
Professor Oliver Kesar, who supervised the study, enthusiastically spoke about the outcome, saying: “This is a mega sporting spectacle, the likes of which Croatia has never had at any sporting, cultural or any other event.
“The results of the 2022 study showed that this project is both economically and socially sustainable and that Croatia should continue to host the WRC.”
For Daniel Šaškin, president of the Organizing Committee of Croatia Rally, there is good reason to believe that the number of spectators and the resulting income will increase further in 2023 after two recent major changes in the country.
“We must not forget that there were still numerous travel rules for numerous potential fans in 2022,” Saškin explained. “Not only are they now relaxed, but Croatia recently entered the Schengen zone, simplifying travel for fans from a number of key European markets, and secondly, Croatia has adopted the euro, which means easier cash transactions for those who use the same currency in their own currency. Earth.”
WRC Promoter event director Simon Larkin was impressed with what the Tarmac rally brought to the championship, adding: “The Croatia Rally has been an excellent addition to the WRC calendar – bringing with it its own unique set of challenges and distinct identity.
“Zagreb’s location makes this event unthinkable for rally fans, as the capital is only a few hours’ drive away from a number of key rally markets such as Hungary, Germany, Austria, Italy and the Czech Republic.
“As a promoter, we are incredibly pleased to see studies like this one conducted by the Zagreb Faculty of Economics, which continue to prove the positive impact of the WRC on host cities and countries.”
Croatia Rally will be run as the fourth race in the 2023 calendar and will take place from April 20 to 23.
