‘Article one’ has filed a request to join the Democratic Party
This morning, 31 January 2023 at 12, the signatories of this press release, registered in Article One, have filed their 2023 membership application for the new Democratic Party and will participate in the ongoing constituent Congress. Automatic Article One subscribers as envisaged in the constituent process, without the need to join the PD but by signing a commitment to do so if the new PD will be such, due to compliance with the charter of values. We speak of the “Constituent Congress” because the electoral defeat of 25 September 2022 unequivocally said two things: a) that the disconnect between the popular forces and politics, as demonstrated by the very high abstention, has reached levels that put our democracy; b) that our Constitution is also at risk because the victorious forces, but not the majority in the country, have stories unrelated to the 1947 constitutional pact which guaranteed peace and development for Italy. We speak of the “Constituent Congress” because we intend to commit ourselves to the reconstruction of a large popular party, committed to universal common goods such as health care and public schools, public water, environmental protection. Committed to fighting the unbearable inequalities that push large sections of the population towards poverty, damage the production structure by restricting consumption through a widespread precariousness that redesigns the social structure making it subordinate. We speak of the “Constituent Congress” because we cannot ignore the mistakes made by the centre-left: thinking that the unregulated development of the market would have guaranteed well-being and democracy, that turbo-capitalism would have taken care of environmental protection, that popular participation and intermediate bodies could Replace with charismatic leaders, perhaps directly elected by the people. We speak of the “Constituent Congress” because we have the goal of unity of the forces of the left, those who are already in the Democratic Party and those who will offer the hundred forms of civicism. A unity that develops as the result of programs in which work, health, the environment are the glue of a new alliance between parties and social forces capable of representing the needs of the popular masses. We speak of the Constituent Congress so that on issues of peace we do not stop at being for or against the sending of arms to Ukraine brutally attacked by Putin, but projects to resolve the conflict are imposed in Europe and in NATO.
