On heavy snow storm sweeps across large parts of Austria on Monday! The increased warning level was declared in federal states.

At the beginning of the week, the gradient between a high over the eastern Atlantic and a mature low-pressure complex over Scandinavia increases, resulting in a sometimes stormy north-west weather situation into the second half of the week. In addition, several fronts along the northern Alps repeatedly cause snowfall.

Expert now says 70 centimeters of fresh snow and storm

A first front will reach the eastern part of the Alps in the course of Monday, until Tuesday the largest amounts of fresh snow are expected in the Mariazeller and Ausseerland. On Wednesday the weather will be calm for a short time, but the next front will reach the Alps towards evening. According to the current status, large amounts of fresh snow can be expected in the traffic jams in the northern Alps by the weekend, while rain is mixed in at low altitudes.

Am Monday Clouds dominate on the north side of the Alps and around noon snow begins to fall from the north-west, which turns into rain below 300 to 500 meters over the course of the day. In the east only a few rain and sleet showers will pass through, in the south and southeast it will remain dry and sunny at times. On the northern side of the Alps, stronger westerly winds will spread, especially from the Mostviertel to the Thermenlinie and also on the mountains. It gets milder with 0 to +7 degrees.
