The Romanian Foreign Minister: We have a constructive dialogue with Bulgaria regarding Schengen
Bulgaria must continue the steps to access Schengen, both in relations with Austria and in those with the Netherlands, Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu said on the sidelines of the parliament.
“The Netherlands, as you know, is against Bulgaria and there are a number of conditions that must be fulfilled by Bulgaria,” emphasized Romania’s number one diplomat.
According to him, there is a constructive dialogue between Bucharest and Sofia on the subject of Schengen and talks at the level of foreign ministers are forthcoming. Separately, Romania continues discussions on finding support for joining the borderless space.
“We are talking to over two-thirds of my colleagues now who are both in the EU and in Schengen. It is about 23 countries that vote in the Justice and Home Affairs Council. In practice, we get assurance of the support of about 15 ministers of foreign affairs and European affairs from these”, said the state ministers.
Asked how to comment on the results of the Austrian elections, Auresku replies: “I think it is easy to draw a conclusion about the effect or loss of effect of the application of the Schengen theme in Austria, in this campaign or in this election context.” (BTA)
