Now the radio measurement in Norway is being upgraded with new portable technology
Norway will be the first country outside the USA where a new portable measuring unit will be used in the radio measurements, Nielsen says.
Nielsen Media has upgraded the official measurement of radio listening in Norway, the media measurement company states in a press release.
The change is being commissioned by NRK, the P4 group and Bauer Media
One of the new measures is the implementation of a portable measuring meter in the listening panel, which forms the numerical basis for the measurements.
– With this, Norway becomes the first market outside the US where this measurement technology is used in an official media usage measurement, Nielsen says.
The device is called Nielsen’s Portable People Meter (PPM) Wearables, and the plan is for it to replace today’s regular PPM meter by the end of 2024.
According to Nielsen, the listening panels must have found the new device more appealing and easier to use.
The new device also has technology to share daily estimates of radio listening with headphones.
This will make the measurement even more representative, the radio industry itself believes.
– In order to ensure a solid radio currency for the very ambitious Norwegian market, it is crucial to continue developing new methods and technology to keep up with the constant changes in people’s media use, says head of analysis in the P4 group, Åse Marit Linberg.
– The collaboration with Nielsen and the implementation of the new PPM Wearables is an example of exactly this, and will result in better radio measurement in Norway, she says.
Nielsen has been responsible for the official measurement of radio listening in Norway since 2019, and renewed its contract with NRK, P4 and Bauer Media last year.
