Moldova is economically cut off from the rest of the country, as economic data shows. From the point of view of GDP per capita, Moldova is behind all other development regions, and within the regions there are other gaps, because practically Iasi, Bacau and Suceava lead the region behind, according to the figures delivered by the National Strategy and Forecast Commission . (CNSP).

The fact that there is no adequate transport infrastructure linking the region to the rest of the country and western Europe has caused investment to bypass the area and the workforce to migrate either abroad or to the large urban centers in Romania, especially Bucharest. Now, through PNRR, all 320 km of highway between Ploieşti and Paşcani are being built. During this period, the regional operational program for the Northeast was also approved, the largest program, with 1.8 billion euros that can be absorbed in the region.
