Handball World Cup – Sweden rages
GDANSK/OSLO (Dagbladet): The Handball World Cup ended in disappointment for Sweden. With star player Jim Gottfridsson out with an injury, they lost both semi-finals and bronze finals in front of the home fans in Stockholm.
The day after the WC party was over reveals Aftonbladet that several of the Swedish players are furious at the conditions in their own WC.
Germany reacts
Worst ever
Sweden played group stage and main round in Gothenburg. Aftonbladet claims to have sources in the player group that the players were very dissatisfied with the food they were served in Gothenburg.
– The worst food at a championship ever. Under any criticism, describes a source to the newspaper.
The Swedish troop must have served the same fish dish 12 days in a row. The food is described as worse than semi-finished products, and it is written that the players had to go to a fast food restaurant near the hotel to eat their fill.
According to the newspaper, the players must also be angry that the tickets they got for friends and family in the final game in Stockholm were in the “ghost section” in Tele 2 Arena.
Raser: – A mockery
It was arranged that the tickets were difficult to sell out, since the place is so far away from the pitch that you have to follow the big screen in the hall to catch what is happening.
According to Aftonbladet, Sweden’s national team is preparing an email to the WC organization with several points they are dissatisfied with.
Norway reacts
Denmark is catching on
According to the newspaper, world champion Denmark must also be the only one in several of the points. They played in Malmö, Stockholm and one game in Gdansk.
To DR says Denmark’s defense chief Henrik Møllgaard that it is the worst organized championship in 20 years. He complains about hotels, the food, bad internet and the long journey.
The championship was shared between Sweden and Poland.
Norway satisfied
Norway, who lost to Spain in the quarter-finals, played seven of their World Cup matches in Poland. Three in Kraków, three in Katowice, one in Gdansk, as well as two placement matches in Stockholm.
Norway expressed frustration that they had many travel days and few rest days, which went beyond sporting fairness.
TV debate: – Totally grotesque
Dagbladet asked both coach Jonas Wille and the players several times about the facilities, each time Norway expressed that they were satisfied.
That message is repeated by press manager Lars Kvam.
– We absolutely cannot complain about the food or the conditions in Poland or Sweden. Quite the contrary, I would say. Very good hotels and meals in all the cities we visited, writes Kvam in a message to Dagbladet on Monday.
Butcher Germany: – Extremely annoying
The Swedish World Cup boss announced on Sunday that Swedish handball will make a profit of approximately ten million on the World Cup.
– When it comes to the national team and what they are complaining about, we will make an assessment together with them. Well, I can’t comment on anything, we have to get all the information on the table, says WC manager Krister Bergström to Aftonbladet.
