end of works at Rodange and Mersch stations
In 2023, alongside the work to modernize and extend the railway infrastructure between Bettembourg and Luxembourg, which is scheduled to come into service in 2027, the Luxembourg Railways (CFL) announced the finalization of the exchange hubs of Rodange and Mersch and the continuation of work at Howald.
These new facilities designed to promote the use of public transport (free in Luxembourg since 1uh March 2020, Ed) from CFL stations will also make it possible to offer parking solutions (P+R) adapted to the needs of travelers departing from the hubs of Rodange and Mersch.
Rodange: a park and ride with 1,600 spaces
Passengers on lines 60 (Luxembourg – Esch/Alzette – Rodange) and 70 (Luxembourg – Rodange – Athus/Longwy) could, from mid-April, benefit from a new P + R with 1,600 seats at the exchange hub from Rodange. At the end of 2023, access to the station will be facilitated thanks to the work carried out on the access road on the north side, the underground and the surroundings of the passenger building for more comfort. At the same time – from June to December – the rail infrastructure (platform, tracks, catenaries) will also be renewed to the east of Rodange station.
Howald: the station will soon be linked to the tram
Also at the end of 2023, access to the Howald interchange, served by lines 60 (Luxembourg – Esch/Alzette – Rodange) and 90 (Luxembourg – Bettembourg – Thionville), will be facilitated thanks to the extension of the existing footbridge which will connect the CFL stop to the bus station under construction on the other side. Lifts and escalators also provide access to the tram stop from the platforms.
400 spaces in Mersch
On line 10 (Luxembourg – Troisvierges – Gouvy), the new P+R in Mersch will be available this summer with an offer of 400 parking spaces. The track, accessible from the newly integrated platform along the passenger building, will be put back into service.
