The concept of the development of the Russky Islands with consideration of environmental problems, in particular, the fate of the unique Novik Bay, was at the center of the discussion of the participants of the round table “Development of Vladivostok: Economics and Ecology” (12+), which returned to the consideration of discussion events (12+) organized by Primorsky branch of the Union of Journalists of Russia, the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Government of the Primorsky Territory as part of the work of the Discussion Club “Pacific Russia” (18+). Readers of IA PrimaMedia also had the opportunity to express their point of view by taking part in surveys (12+) dedicated to the theme of the round table.
On the eve of the round table, the editors of IA PrimaMedia asked readers whether or not the balance of economy and ecology is important for the development of the Russky Islands. The corresponding structure is now being formed by the federal authorities, taking into account the representation of the authorities, the scientific community and norms.
More than half of the participants in this survey (57%) felt that the balance of the economy and ecology of the island for the development of Russky is, of course, necessary – it must be achieved. 29% of respondents indicated their suspicion more cautiously – “balancing is important, but it is not clear how it can be achieved.” Among the respondents, there were also those who see the main danger to nature in any human activity: 14% of respondents chose the option “Russian Island should be left alone, even vacationers on the beaches should not be allowed.”
It is noteworthy that two answer options: “Such a balance is not important – the nature of the islands will withstand any anthropogenic load” and “The issue raised for discussion is of no particular importance” – no one chose. This suggests that PrimaMedia readers believe that the environmental problems of the Russky Islands deserve the closest attention.
During the round table held on January 19, 2023 at the House of Scientists of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the idea was repeatedly voiced that the balance of economy and ecology for the development of the Russian Islands is both important and necessary. At the same time, experts are considering various ways to achieve this balance.
The main conclusion of the discussion was the following questions: solving the environmental problems of the islands, considering the anthropogenic pressure on it is possible. This requires the adoption of preventive measures by the state authorities of the Primorsky Territory and the scientific community of the region. In connection with the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Primorsky Territory, Elena Parkhomenko called for participation in the final resolution of the round table “Development of Vladivostok: Economic Ecology” on the need to create a working body for the interaction of executive authorities with a wide range of regions.
Accordingly, the editors of PrimaMedia IA suggested that readers of the site answer the question “Does the Government of Primorsky Krai need an advisory body for interaction with science?”
As they say, opinions are divided. But, first of all, it should be noted that not a single respondent chose the option “No, I don’t need it.” According to the results of the study, 36% of respondents said that the body is needed not by itself, but only in combination with funding for scientific research. 27% of the survey participants linked the initiative of the advisory body with the initiative to choose the nature of Primorye. 36% of survey participants rated the proposal to appoint an advisory body more broadly: 18% chose the option “Yes, we need it. state”.
The discussion club “Pacific Russia” was created on the initiative of the Primorsky branch of the Union of Journalists of Russia with the support of representatives of the Primorsky Territory and the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2020. This is a community of experts who want and can change the Far East for the better.
The socially significant project “Pacific Russia Discussion Club” is being implemented at the expense of subsidies from the regional budget, provided to the Primorsky branch of the SZHR based on the results of a competition based on the results of the selection of socially oriented non-profit organizations in the Primorsky Territory in terms of providing them with subsidies from the regional budget for financial support of expenses related to with the implementation of socially significant programs.
