It’s the end of an era for Belgium. On Instagram, John Van Herck on Monday that he ended his captaincy in Davis Cup and in Billie Jean King Cup. The 48-year-old former player had been the “boss” of the Belgian men’s team since 2011 and that of the women’s team since 2019. Davis Cup, Van Herck experienced two finals, in 2015 and 2017, lost against Great Britain and France respectively. In comments reported by Yves Simon, journalist for Sud Info, Steve Darcis declared himself a candidate to become captain of the team of Davis Cup. “The Shark” would probably be the logical replacement.

“In 2023, I will be motivated to make this an exceptional final year”
“After 12 years, 28 Davis Cup appearances and 4 years, 8 Billie Jean King Cup appearances, I would like to announce that I have decided that 2023 will be my last year as captain. At this point, all I can say, it’s thank you all for your support and kindness. You have supported me and the entire team unconditionally on this incredible journey.
