Amnesty International evokes “a form of censorship”
This Wednesday, the Town Hall will not host the round table on the 30th anniversary of the Oslo agreements.
Faced with the anger of the Jewish community for having invited the Franco-Palestinian activist Salah Hamouri and no representative of Israel, Gregory Doucet retreated on Monday, canceling the event.
For Amnesty International, which was one of the participants in the programs, the decision of the mayor of Lyon is regrettable.
“Amnesty International France considers that Salah Hamouri has been the subject of continuous judicial harassment by the Israeli authorities, because of his activity as a lawyer for the defense of Palestinian prisoners, within the organization Addameer, and in a context of increased repression against Palestinian civil society. Amnesty International France notes that hate speech against Salah Hamouri, sometimes coordinated, on social networks, aims to prevent the exercise of his freedom of expression”mentions the NGO in a press release.
For Amnesty International, “a form of censorship” is taking hold of France because of the cancellation in recent months of several debates or meetings on the policy of the rejected government.
