according to the expert, they are lobbying in Germany for investment in Hungary
Countries with battery factories will have a strategic advantage in the future – says political scientist Tamás Lánczi in Kossuth radio’s Vasárnapi Újság program. Regarding the protests related to the battery factory in Debrecen, he explained: this is a good investment, important from the point of view of the national economy, because it has created jobs now, and in the future battery factories will be the driving force of the economy.
He drew attention to the fact that from 2035 the production of internal combustion engines will end in Europe, from then on only new e-cars will be put into operation, i.e. there will be a huge demand for batteries. “Whoever owns a battery factory can produce in large quantities, so the future will belong to them,” he said, adding that everyone understands this both abroad and at home, but “it stings the eyes of many abroad” that Hungary is not the first to make such an investment.
According to the political scientist, “a fight has started so that these factories are not built in our country”, they are lobbying hard in Germany so that Hungarian investments are built there instead.
In response to a question, he said: whoever wants green technology must want batteries, including factories, because “batteries are not harvested from trees”. He says that it is no coincidence that so far no problems have arisen with them, just as they do not arise in Germany.
Brutal numbers have been revealed about the Chinese battery factory being built in Debrecen, but there is no need to panicCarbon dioxide emissions alone are 300,000 tons per year. The hundreds of pages however, the environmental impact assessment states: the giga investment does not pose a threat. |
The political scientist highlighted that the purpose of the protests deter investors from bringing these modern technologies to Hungary. He reminded that when they protested against the Hungarian foie gras, the French foie gras producers surrendered the forces leading the protest, so it happened on a small scale even then. He added: this is a much more serious story, because it is not about a simple sector, not an industrial policy issue, but on a national strategic issue.
According to the political scientist, these are investments whose true value will be seen in 5-10 years, when all mobility will be electric, so such a battery factory will be an invaluable advantage.
