The Nice-Monaco cycle path at a standstill? Users demand real improvements
Maralpine “velotakers” regret the dangerousness of the Nice-Monaco route, which should have been made more peaceful thanks to a new layout provided this year. File on which we have not had any news for several months.
Interrogates in our columns last Novemberthe deputy mayor Richard Chemla mentioned a complete point on the subject by the end of 2022. Commitment not kept, since at the end of January 2023, we still did not know exactly what became of the cycle lane project between Nice and Monaco.
A year ago, we scheduled the delivery of this entire layout “by 2023”. For the time being, no timetable is offered to users for work between Villefranche-sur-mer and the Principality.
THE FOLLOW-UP AFTER THIS AD
Lack of safety, according to users
Every day, Sylvain, member of the association Nice by bike, makes this trip on two wheels to get to work. For him “the environment is great, we pass by the seaside, we have the sunrise… Everything is there to have, in principle, a smile on your face”.

Nevertheless, “There are the least amusing things: the state of the road, but also the incivilities that affect us every day, with overtaking too close”.
“The current route is not at all suitable for people who go to work, it’s more for leisure. If I had to take it, I would take 1h30 instead of 45 minutes. There are only signposts , but not real plots”.
“The tracks must be renovated and the security really reinforced”.
“Can it be rational that we also influence the speed of cars? For example, on the return trip between Villefranche and Èze, you are overtaken at 60–70 km/h. Plus, there’s not a lot of space on the side.”
The Metropolis no longer gives a calendar
We asked the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis to find out exactly where this cycle path project is.
This written response, without dates, was sent to us on 23 January.
“The cycle path project between Nice and Monaco is still under study”.
“He fits more broadly into a global reflection on all West-East trips along the coast of the Metropolis, in connection with Monaco. The reflection carried out is therefore on the scale of all forms of mobility: circulation of cars, bicycles, interurban buses, but also the train and maritime shuttles.
Those who have chosen this mode of travel will therefore have to wait a little longer to find out when the promised facilities will be delivered.
