According to a survey by Statistics Austria, renting his or her apartment has already become a financial challenge for one in five people. According to the study, the situation in many Salzburg households will continue to worsen over the next three months.
Statistics Austria interviewed people aged between 16 and 69 for this study in the third quarter of 2022. In addition to the high electricity costs, loss of income also exacerbates the situation.
In late summer and autumn, around a third of the Salzburg residents surveyed reported a loss of income. In addition to lower earnings, there is inflation and high housing costs. According to their own statements, the rented apartment has become a heavy financial burden for a good 13 percent of the said persons.
Every fourth person can no longer afford a holiday
In a survey by Statistics Austria in late summer, many Salzburg residents stated that many things could no longer be done with the money available. 19 percent of those affected said in the survey that they could no longer afford unexpected expenses of 1,300 euros. According to their own statements, going on vacation once a year has become unaffordable for 27 percent.
16 percent can no longer afford investments, such as replacing worn-out furniture. There is a 6.4 percent probability that keeping your apartment warm is no longer possible in Salzburg.
AK wants a rent cap and 1,000 new rental apartments
Once again, the Chamber of Labor is calling for the construction of an additional 1,000 rental apartments at state level. The other demands of the AK also include the suspension of VAT on goods such as food.
The Chamber of Labor (AK) is also calling for the rapid introduction of a rent cap. In Spain, where one already exists, the situation has eased significantly since then, argues Salzburg’s Chamber of Labor President Peter Eder.
