Prigozhin loses influence because of Wagner’s failures at Bakhmut – ISW
According to analysts, the Kremlin turned to Prigozhin’s irregular forces to survive a difficult period after the culmination of the offensive of Russian regular forces in the Luhansk region in the summer of 2022, which misled Prigozhin into reassessing his importance in the Russian military and political sphere.
The Kremlin, however, will not be entirely appeased by Prigozhin if Russian conventional forces continue to assume responsibility for the front line in Bakhmut.
The Kremlin is probably already gradually depriving him of his privileges. Russia’s Defense Ministry has also made new efforts to professionalize the army, an effort that, if successful, will lead to the marginalization of parallel military formations such as the Wagner PMC, analysts say.
Prigozhin probably feels and compensates for the decline of his influence and therefore begins to attack the nationalist faction of the veterans.
Prigogine was also accused of bribery, which would have further damaged his reputation, regardless of their validity.
Earlier, the HUR explained that the head of the “Wagner” PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin does not lead combat units in the war against Ukraine. It performs a media and political function.
