‘Lek in Amsterdam is far from over’
Willem van Hanegem notes that the leak at Ajax is still not over. Meetings were held under the leadership of John Heitinga Won 1-4 against Excelsiorbut the former footballer did not always see the team from Amsterdam undergo the entire match.
In his column in the General Journal Van Hanegem talks about Allard Lindhout’s performance during FC Twente – Feyenoord, but did not think he was the worst referee of the weekend. ‘I even had to look up the name of the man who whistled Excelsior – Ajax. It was Ingmar Oostrom. They were lucky that the Excelsior players only happen in the meantime, they actually seemed to think the many decisions against them were the best.’
“Excelsior did not believe in a victory and that says something,” continues the icon of Dutch football. “Even if things go as badly as Ajax is now, many clubs still go into the match against that club with the idea that things have to go very well to get to a point.”
‘Lek in Amsterdam is far from over’
Still, he has the feeling that more or less every club has something to gain against the team from Amsterdam at the moment. ‘Whoever chases Ajax, gets opportunities. You’ve seen that so many times this season. Excelsior lurked more on the counter, but also had many opportunities. That tells me that the leak in Amsterdam is far from over and it would be strange if it were.’
‘It wouldn’t have been that if they found out that Ruud had placed Brood next to Alfred Schreuder and it isn’t now that John Heitinga is the boss for the time being,’ Van Hanegem concludes. ‘I understand that he was happy with the win. But Heitinga also knows that the game has to improve in order to really deal with a crisis.’
