The electoral commission in one of the precincts in Prague’s Bohnice mistakenly counted the votes in the presidential election for Petr Pavl to his opponent Andrej Babiš (ANO), who, according to official data from the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ), became the winner of the vote in this precinct. The spokesman for Prague 8, Martin Šalek, confirmed to Deník N, who was the first to miss, that there was an error during the count. However, the deadline for the commission to correct the results has already passed. You can still appeal to the Supreme Administrative Court. Pavel, the overall winner of the presidential election, won convincingly in the capital and in the eighth district.

“They calculated it correctly, but then they attributed that result to another candidate“, said Šalek. In precinct 8090, according to the electoral website, 317 people voted for the head of ANO and the former prime minister, 169 voters voted for the retired general, although in reality the distribution of votes was exactly the opposite.

Electoral commissions have 24 hours to correct any errors, but Prague 8 missed this deadline. The district only contacted the Czech Statistical Office on Sunday before 3:00 p.m., after citizens began to address the situation on social networksstated Deník N. “Then we started to ask questions, to contact the given commission, and they finally informed Prague that there had been an erroneous attribution of votes for individual candidates,” added the spokesperson on 8.

In the election database, Babiš will still be listed as the winner in the given precinct, as reported by the commission, although in reality more than 65 percent of voters here voted for the president-elect. “After the deadline, the results cannot be changed arbitrarily. That would be influencing the elections,” said CZSO spokesman Jan Cieslar. According to him, the statistical office cannot do anything at this moment. “By law, we read the results that the individual precinct commissions sent us,” he said. The only way to correct erroneous results is to appeal to the Supreme Administrative Court. “Anyone can do it. First, the commission must meet and process the whole thing. Then we will see how we proceed,” added Šalek.

Pavel won convincingly in the entire republic, receiving 58.32 percent of the votes and beating Babiš by roughly 960,000 votes. In Prague, the winning candidate received over 76.37 percent of the vote, the most of all regions.
