Takeone: The World Needs Change – A film festival with a message
On January 27th, 2023, the Takeone Film Festival took place again in the Metropolkino, which is organized annually by the students of the Innsbruck Media College. This year’s theme – CHANGE
Takeone, what is this?
Takeone is a film festival organized by students from Media College Innsbruck was launched and has been held annually ever since. The special feature: Every filmmaker, whether beginner or professional, has the chance to submit short films and thus be seen on the big screen.
The idea behind it was, among other things, that the students have the opportunity to present what they have learned to an audience. So not only films of the students can be seen, but the whole event is the result of their hard work.
From the idea to the festival
In the course of the second and third semester of the media college, the young media specialists learn how a project like Takeone is planned and organized in the subject “Applied Project and Catering Management”. In addition to the logo, the posters, the website and the media contributions, a kind of business plan is also created. The students search for sponsors and jury members themselves and think about marketing strategies. These considerations have led to the fact that the Takeone Film Festival has now become well known. This year there were over 40 national and international entries that couldn’t be more diverse. But all participants have one thing in common: With their contribution, they want to change something in the world.
CHANGE
“The purest form of insanity is to change everything from the old and hope that something will change.” (Albert Einstein)
For this reason, the organizers of this year’s Takeone have chosen the topic CHANGE. It offers a variety of ways to express the desire for change, but also to drive the change itself, even if only in the minds of the viewers. The participants more than took advantage of this opportunity. In addition to the topics of racism, misogyny and climate, the topic of mental illnesses was also in focus. Most filmmakers wanted to draw attention to the grievances and teach them how to deal with them. Undoubtedly, these efforts are an echo of the last few months and years, which have increasingly revealed areas in which we as a society still have work to do.
woman business
The Takeone was picked up by a women’s team this year. A statement was made with the short film “Women’s Business” produced by Tanja Ploner: “Women also have a place in technical professions!”. The entire project was created exclusively by women. From artistic direction to production to graphic design, women’s hands are involved. The film’s content also features women’s issues, captured in a nightclub setting.
With their clear and provocative images and words, the developers of the short film “Women’s Business” won the hearts of the jury and the audience and thus won the first prize of the Takeone.

crowd favourite
However, another film has snagged the title of audience favorite. Directed and produced by Nicolai Zeitler, “All the Evil in the World” won the Takeone Film Festival Audience Award. The subject of the short film is the cycle of impolite and mean behavior in our society. This cycle is illustrated by an encounter between a stressed man and a stranger on a crowded sidewalk. In his daydreams, the man imagines how he can react differently. What he should have said to the stranger. He works himself up into his fantasies, evoking his innermost demons.
The film touched with its particularly intimate shots and its irony.
