SPÖ-Kucher: “Supply of medicines must be secured by production in Austria”
SPÖ health spokesman: “Medicines must be available and affordable for everyone” – SPÖ has a plan for more security of supply
Vienna (OTS/SK) – SPÖ health spokesman Philip Kucher is pushing for the implementation of the SPÖ plan for more security of supply with affordable medicines. Referring to the Ö1 “Journal zu Gast” with Novartis Austria boss Kocher, Kucher emphasizes: “Hundreds of medicines are currently not available or only available to a limited extent. The shortage cannot be remedied with higher prices. Drug production must be brought back from Asia to Austria and Europe in order to ensure the security of supply for our population.” If antipyretic drugs are not available for children, or dozens of pharmacies have to be searched for prescribed antibiotics, “there’s a fire on the roof” . The SPÖ health spokesman calls for a Made-in-Austria fund in order to pursue the strategic goal of future independence in the area of drug supply. “It is high time that the turquoise-green government acted and took up the SPÖ plan for more security of supply,” Kucher said today, Saturday, to the SPÖ press service. ****
The SPÖ plan envisages increasing the research and production bonus, production quotas for domestic use and the strengthening of research clusters at the universities. In the medium term, the pharmaceutical industry should also be obliged to provide more security of supply – anyone who wants to sell in Europe should also produce in Europe. In addition, the Ministry of Health is to set up warehouses for defined medical products in order to prevent drug shortages in the future. “Securing the supply of the population with essential medicines must have the highest priority. Medication must be available and affordable for everyone!” Kucher concludes. (final) ls
