South Carolina Basketball offers Okku Federiko
South Carolina has gone international in recruiting. The coaching staff recently offered 6-10 striker Okku Federiko, the future of Finland playing in Pannterit Helsinki. He played in the Finnish under-19 league and averaged 19.3 points and 11 rebounds per game.
South Carolina is looking to tap into the recent trend of bringing Finnish kids to the United States to play college ball. Recruiting abroad is normal, but recently in Finland has produced a lot of college players over the past couple of years, including last year when one of the nation’s top players, Alvar Peltoniemi, picked the school’s D2 powerhouse Augusta University for pro options.
Oku’s brother Federiko, who committed to Pitt last year over South Carolina, was also one of the biggest names who chose a US college instead of staying in Finland.
South Carolina had Federico’s family on an official visit last year, and so far South Carolina is the first college to offer him.
South Carolina has a chance bring in a very productive big manwhich is a big need for the team, especially since freshman forward GG Jackson is a projected lottery pick in this year’s NBA draft.
Okku could come in and try to bring a similar style of play to GG’s PG Zachary Davis and PF Daniel Hankins-Sanford, who he can develop with. Collin Murray-Boyles and shooting guard Arden Conyers.
