At the European Film Fair (EFM), which will be held during the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, the Baltic countries – Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia – have been granted the status of guests of honor, and the Berlinale’s “Retrospective” program, dedicated to classic restored films, will feature a parodic restoration of Arūnas Žebriūnas’s film “The Beauty” ” movie (1969).

February 16-22 Delegations from the Lithuanian Film Center (LKC), the Latvian Film Center and the Estonian Film Institute participate in the European Film Fair, Country in Focus program discussions, film screenings, and other important events. A joint stand presenting the film industry of the Baltic countries will be open during the All-European Film Fair, LKC announced.

The center is the talents of the film industry

Two programs organized during the European Film Fair present experienced and novice producers.

The Upcoming Producers program features internationally recognized producers. Producer and director Giedrė Žickytė (production company “Moonmakers”), producer Klementina Remeikaitė (“Afterschool”), producer Justė Michailinaitė (“Broom Films”) and producer and director Romas Zabarauskas were invited to it this year.

For those looking for the possibility of joint production, the European Film Fair organizes a separate program “Visitors program”, this year Emilija Sluškonytė (production company “Austre Studio”), Andrius Lekavičius (“360 degree films”) and Ieva Černiauskaitė (“Film Jam”) are participating in it.

This year, among the three Baltic countries, Lithuania is the only one with two participants invited to participate in the “Berlinale Talents” program of the Berlinale Film Festival. They are Milda Baginskaitė, who currently lives and works in the United Kingdom, and director Vytautas Puidokas, who made the documentary film “El Padre Medico” (2019).

Selected Lithuanian series

According to LKC, this year’s European Film Fair is special for Lithuania also because the new Lithuanian series “Troll Farm” (dir. Ernestas Jankauskas, pro. Gabija Siurbytė) was noticed in the “Berlinalė Series Market Selects” program – one of the sixteen selected series is presented as ” with significant market potential’.

Two Lithuanian documentary projects will also be presented at the European Film Fair – the film “The Life and Death of the Christmas Tree” directed by Arturo Jevdokimova (produced by Ringailė Leščinskienė) and the latest work by director Aistė Žegulytė “Biodestruktoriai” (produced by Uljana Kimrė, produced by Butglaoji production).

The program includes Lithuanian classics

Lithuanian cinema is entering the Berlin Film Festival and its accompanying events more and more boldly – this year, the “Retrospective” program of the Berlinale, dedicated to classic restored films, will feature the parodic restored film “The Beauty” by A. Žebriūnas.

Prominent representatives of today’s filmmaking community, film restorers and curators will present the films and tell about the historical environment they created in the Retrospective.

The European Film Fair will take place on February 16-22. During the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival. The film festival will take place from February 16 to 26.
