Sagosen shot to pieces Hungary – Norway on to fight for 5th place – Dagsavisen
The Germans beat Egypt 35-34 after extra time earlier on Friday.
– I am satisfied with the implementation. I think we do it professionally and stand together as a group, Sagosen told Viaplay.
The handball star plays daily in Kiel and is aware that it is important to be able to return home to Germany with a victory after Sunday’s match.
– There will be a lot of prestige, as it was in the last match. Nobody wants to go home to their club and be the worst national team, said Sagosen.
Hungary got off to a brutal start to the match when Miklos Rosta shot Torbjørn Bergerud in the head from a penalty just one minute into the match. It led to a direct red card from the French referees.
Sander Sagosen responded by scoring the first goal of the match and sending Norway into a lead they never relinquished. At the break, the red shirts led 16-13.
Fairy tale magic
After the break, the Hungarians closed in to 19-18, but with a good finish, the Norwegian handball masters secured a superior 33-25 victory.
Sagosen was the match’s top scorer with seven goals from his eight shot attempts. Máté Lékai scored six for Hungary.
Sagosen also recorded seven assists and was named the best player on the field.
– It’s always fun to play good handball. But it’s the wrong game we’re playing well, it should have been two days ago, said Sagosen.
Bitter pressure
Norway lost the quarter-final drama against Spain on Wednesday after double extra time and thus had to go into the “loser’s play-off”.
– I think there is an extremely good attitude in the team. I am impressed by how they have managed to adjust, said national team manager Jonas Wille to Viaplay.
– We stand together as a team in both ups and downs, but this is going to take a while. The heart will bleed for a long time, Sagosen added.
At the same time, the Danish men’s handball also secured a place in the final when they won the semi-final against Spain.
