In 2022. Kia broke records in Europe… and in Portugal
Kia ended the year 2022 with a record performance, not only in Portugal, but also in Europe, thanks to an increase in market shares to the 4% level. Driven largely by electrified models.
In strong growth in Europe, Kia reached, in 2022, a new record market share in Europe, reaching, according to the most recent data from European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), the 4.8% of total passenger car sales. Value that represents an increase of 4.3% compared to the number reached in 2021.
According to the same source, the South Korean brand sold a total of 502,677 vehicles in the European Union, EFTA and United Kingdom markets, which means an increase of 7.9% compared to the 416,715 units sold in 2021. this in a market marked by the downward trend, with sales falling by 4.1%.
It should also be noted that this increase in demand for models kiawas based, in large part, on the manufacturer’s electrified offer, which accounted for almost a third of the total numbers – 30.9%, synonymous with 176,149 (electrified) vehicles sold.
As for models, disputed leadership between the Ceed range and the new sportage, with the former ending 2022 with a total of 137,347 units registered in Europe, while the SUV registered a total of 136,293 vehicles sold. Finally and in the lowest place of the Top 3, the Niro, with 80,461 units.
Portugal is also growing
Also helping 2022 to be a great year is the excellent performance of the South Korean brand in Portugal, where, represented by the importer Astara, it ended the previous year with growth of 20.1%. Largely due to the performance of the models stonic, Xceed and Rio.

According to the data collected by the ACAP – Automobile Association of Portugal, the Kia brand sold a total of 6,419 vehicles in 2022, which equates to a record share of 4.1%. This was also the first time that the South Korean brand entered the 4% level in Portugal.
