Used car prices. How does Poland compare to other countries?
Among the countries of the Visegrad Group (Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary), the cheapest used cars can still be bought in Poland, but compared to 2021, the division between our country and Hungary has narrowed. And where is the most expensive?
According to the AAA AUTO report, a summary of data on cars used in second-hand shops, on websites and at used car dealers, in December 2022 the median price of a used car in Poland was PLN 30,900. In the same period, the median of a car on the other hand in Hungary was PLN 31,080, in Slovakia PLN 38,540, and the highest in the Czech Republic – PLN 40,000.
For comparison, in December 2021, the median price of a used car in Poland was PLN 23,900, PLN 28,470 in Hungary, PLN 32,400 in the Czech Republic, and PLN 31,710 in Slovakia.
“Our analysis of the reduced price of cars on the secondary market in the Visegrad Group countries of the province, which was predictable, an increase in the entire range, caused by the coronavirus pandemic, reduced share of new cars and galloping inflation. Despite this, we are dealing with a significant price discrepancy between countries. In Poland and Hungary, used cars are cheaper than in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The median price difference between Poland and the Czech Republic is as much as 30 percent. This is mainly due to the median age and mileage of cars, which are better in the Czech Republic than in Poland, but also due to the greater purchasing power of the society. The average purchasing value per Pole in 2022 was EUR 9.254, while the European average was EUR 16.344. A Czech had an average purchasing value of EUR 12,970, which is EUR 3,700 less than a Pole,” said Karolína Topolová, CEO of AURES Holdings, operator of the international network of AAA AUTO car centers.
