AC Milan sinks in Rome, Naples flies away
The Rossoneri no longer respond at the start of 2023. Rolled on Tuesday by Lazio (4-0) at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, the defending champions see their hopes of a double disappear in the space of two weeks .
Now relegated to 12 lengths from the leader, Naples, more than ever launched towards its first scudetto for more than 30 years, the Lombards are in the hard and chain a fifth meeting without victory in all competitions.
All of Napoli’s rivals sank on this closing day of the first leg. In the first place awarded Juventus, recently sanctioned with fifteen points on green carpet by the Italian Football Federation, which only took one on its lawn Sunday against Atalanta Bergamo (3-3).
Inter stalls too
For its part, Inter lost Monday at home against the modest Empoli (0-1) and AC Milan imitated it in large widths.
If they remain second, the Rossoneri were still unrecognizable and apathetic for almost 90 minutes, in the wake of their rout in the Italian Supercup against their neighbors Nerazzurri (3-0).
For the third game in a row, Milan cracked in the first ten minutes, betrayed by a static defense on a cross from Mattia Zaccagni taken over by Sergej Milinkovic-Savic after a feint from Luis Alberto (4th).
Zaccagni, a real laziale poison, doubled the bet, more lively to take a shot pushed back by the post (38th).
Milan’s slight reaction at the start of the second half did not weigh heavily against an overexcited Lazio. Pierre Kalulu conceded a penalty converted by Luis Alberto (67th), then Felipe Anderson concluded, still forgotten in the defense (75th).
That this Milan is far from the one who, last season on the same lawn, overturned a match that started badly to win against Lazio (2-1), a victory that looked like a turning point in the conquest of the scudetto.
“Finding Your Spirit”
Currently, the head no longer responds and the legs are tired, like Fikayo Tomori and Davide Calabria, new injuries in an already orphaned defense of Theo Hernandez who remained in Milan (muscular fatigue).
Olivier Giroud claimed the ball in vain, Ismaël Bennacer just missed the top corner (50′) and Stefano Pioli paced in vain in front of his bench without recognizing his players or finding a solution.
“I’m here because I have to be there, but I would like to go back to Milanello to work, because we have to work harder and better,” he said while appearing before the press. “We are not currently performing at our level,” he admitted.
Paolo Maldini, the club’s technical director, appeared on DAZN’s microphone to call on the team to “recover their spirit” from last season. “Losing confidence, it can happen, the important thing is to know how to get up,” he appeared.
Maurizio Sarri, he looked like a good day. His Lazio, even without Ciro Immobile (injured), come within a point behind the Rossoneri and climb to third place level on points with Inter (4th) and Roma (5th), gaining height as the eagle emblem of the club which, before each match, turns in the sky of the Olimpico.
