The capital of green energy – the City of Warsaw
At the end of 2025, the city’s additional needs are to be covered from sources. This is a plan that will help projects such as supplementing ZUSOK in Targówek or introducing a central energy management system in the municipal installation. A great candidate here is also a student and a referral to invest in a contributing source of energy.
Warsaw invests heavily in renewable energy sources (RES). This is not only one of the ways to achieve climate neutrality and increase energy security, but also – in the era of ordinary – real savings for the city.
In the field of RES, in which solar energy stands out. This year, the Urban Photovoltaic Development Program was introduced, according to which all municipal buildings that have such a possibility are equipped with photovoltaic cells. In the summer holidays for the years 2022-24, PLN 60 million will be allocated for this purpose. The first investments already in the year. The panels were successfully installed on the roofs of 46 buildings, including nurseries, schools, nursing homes and sports and recreation centres. Another 125 received investment for aid for 2023-2024.
Thanks to last year’s tasks, panels that obtain solar energy are currently present in 171 municipal buildings. Their total power is 4.1 MW.
Energy from the sun and sewage in Warsaw’s waterworks
Large investments in photovoltaic installations, coming from one of the branches in Poland, may be the Municipal Water and Sewage Company. The company has photovoltaic installations with a peak power of 6.7 MW. The largest of them – with a capacity of 2.43 MW – is being built at the Południe Sewage Treatment Plant. Remains built on the premises of the Nowodwory Pumping Station, the Czajka Sewage Treatment Plant, the Dębe Sewage Treatment Plant, the Northern Plant in Wieliszew and the Białołęka Zone Station.
The projected production of electricity by all MPWiK photovoltaic installations has an average level of about 6.4 GWh, which corresponds to the demand of about 3.2 thousand. household.
Photovoltaics complement the main source of renewable energy in MPWiK, i.e. biogas from wastewater. Thanks to it, over 42 GWh of “green” management energy is produced. In total, the company covers almost a quarter of its energy needs from sources.
Green energy – plans for the future
Warsaw internship investments from RES and funds for the years 2023-2025 has an additional PLN 100 million allocated for this purpose. The city is watching for two construction of photovoltaic farms – in the area of the Żerań CHP plant and near the Południe Sewage Treatment Plant. The power of each of these installations is equal to 15 MW.
The city’s plans also include the construction of an electrolyser to extract the source. The fuel would be used to power up to 350 buses of the Warsaw Public Transport.
Renewable source of energy also for residents
Investments in renewable energy sources, thanks to which they benefit from the city, can also benefit the capitals. Warsaw granting co-financing, i.a. for the installation of pumps, wind heat turbines and photovoltaic panels. Only in the year of the increase, the increase amounted to PLN 3.6 million, of which as much as PLN 2.9 million went to residents installing photovoltaic panels.
At the beginning of September 2022, the next next call for grants. More information can be found at eko.um.warszawa.pl.
