Liga banned Académico Viseu’s pitch two weeks before the match against FC Porto in the Portuguese Cup

It should be remembered that this decision is known about two weeks before the meeting between Académico de Viseu and FC Porto, referring to the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup, on February 8th.
The Liga Portugal announced, this Saturday, the banning of Estádio do Fontelo, home of Académico de Viseu, after the venue had received two negative marks in the last three matches it has hosted. At stake are the poor conditions of the lawn, something that has already merited the comment of Sérgio Conceição, coach of FC Porto.
“Following the infrastructural criteria of the Licensing Manual, and after two negative notes in the last three games, the last one resulting from the last match on the 17th round, the Académico Viseu-Nacional, Liga Portugal notified the Sociedade Desportiva Viseense of the immediate and preventive prohibition of any use of the lawn of the Estádio Municipal do Fontelo”. The Liga communiqué, known this Saturday, bans Estádio do Fontelo, home of Académico de Viseu. At stake are the poor conditions of the lawn.
“It should be remembered that this ban will last, that the pitch presented conditions and suitable for safeguarding the physical integrity of athletes and the enhancement of competitions”, explained Liga Portugal.
The punishment concerns only the competitions organized by Liga Portugal, not interfering, at least for now, in the Portuguese Cup games, which are the responsibility of the FPF.
