On the agenda for this weekend of January 20 and 21 in Toulouse
An olfactory exhibition, a great opera classic, a night of reading and a Cuban music festival… What better way to warm hearts and bodies this weekend of January 20 and 21 in Toulouse? Outings to do with family, friends, lovers, or even alone. Follow the guide !
An exhibition of smells
Long non-existent or only evoked by their representation, the smells of smoking today their place in contemporary art. Visual artists use them as a possible material, develop them with olfactory creators and incorporate them into their works.
With the exhibition called “Olfactory Horizons”, the Espace Ecureuil Foundation offers a journey into another art history, through about thirty very diverse works. There, the eye is no longer king, the intellect is no longer the only one to direct the experience and contemplation is no longer at a distance, since it will often be a question ofpoke one’s nose towards a work to capture its essence. Thus, you will be able to smell the sacredness of cherub censers, the freshness of a zester wall on which to rub lemons, the scent of perfumed leather skin, the smells of a portrait through the water of a bath. , but also the presence of death by an evocation of cemetery flowers or even plants via screens.
A polysensory exhibition during which “we are asked, to us spectators (those who see a thing), to become sniffers too (those who feel it, in all its animal dimension). We are invited to implement a sense, which in our cultures, is relatively unformed; we who still think the world is split between nature and culture. What a mistake ! », Comments Sylvie Corroler Talairach, director of the Espace Ecureuil Foundation.
Practical information: “Horizons olfactores”, from January 20 to March 18, at the Squirrel Space Foundation, 3 Place du Capitole in Toulouse. FREE ENTRANCE.
Opera: a classic among the classics
Mozart’s masterpiece, “The Marriage of Figaro”, is on the bill at the Opéra national du Capitole for six performances. Miracle of theater and music, both funny and of great sensitivity on human torments, the work was nominated to the great swiss director Marco Arturo Marelli and the conductor Herve Niquetspecialist in 18th century music, who will make his debut at the head of theCapitol National Orchestra. Other beginnings, those of the mezzo-soprano Karine Deshayes who will interpret his first Countess.
This opera combines lyrical art with a strong and very entertaining plot. The twists and turns are indeed linked without respite throughout a “crazy day” played drum beating. The music also plays a central role in it by revealing the temperament of the main characters: the arrogance of the count, the melancholy of the countess, the anger of Figaro and the mischievousness of Susanna. Indispensable to understand the plot that unfolds near Seville, at the Almaviva Castle, at the end of the 18th century. There, Figaro and Suzanne, respectively valet and chambermaid to the Count and Countess Almaviva, are preparing for their nuptials. But their joy risks being tarnished by the audacity of the Count, ready to do anything to seduce the future bride.
Practical information: “The Marriage of Figaro”, Sunday January 22 at 3 p.m., at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse. Prices: from 5 to 113 euros. online booking.

But in Blagnac, we put the small dishes in the big ones by organizing many animations, intended for different audiences. Thereby, the whole family can take part in this 7th edition of Reading Night. Warning ! This year, the theme is fear ! But don’t worry, the idea is not to scare the hell out of you… whatever! The further we go in the day, and therefore towards the night, the more the workshops will be… frightening!
The morning will be devoted to the little ones, from 1 to 4 years old. They could come and listen readings of stories and accounts at the Odyssud media library. Then, from 2 p.m., the whole family can take part in the one and only guided tour of the current exhibition: “The color of wonder” by visual artist Laure Devenelle. In the afternoon, place for the older ones, with performances of improvisational theatre, dance wanderings, participatory performances or even the tale of Little Red Riding Hood performed on the guitar. There will therefore be a workshop that will make you want… or fear, since everyone will keep the thrill in common. Only respite: shared meal organized at the Odyssud media library.
