Living in Prague 6? The locals praise him. Lots of greenery and no homeless people

The most famous parts of the sixth district are undoubtedly Dejvice with its iconic Kulaťák, which traditionally forms the center of local events. However, this part of the city has much more to offer. Students, seniors, families with children, as well as nature and sports lovers will find comfortable living here.
Iconic Dejvice is generally rated as a more luxurious residential area, mainly due to the excellent transport accessibility to the city center, the proximity of Prague Castle and the dominant buildings of universities and military institutions. There is also cultural enjoyment and proximity to nature.
During the day, we most often meet students on the streets. In addition to the VŠCHT and CTU campuses, the National Technical Library also attracts them here. They also boast a large number of renowned cafes and restaurants. We can’t forget the famous and always sold-out Dejvice Theater.
Lots of cafes and no negatives
“In my opinion, it is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Prague. There are many cafes and parks. In addition, it is close to everywhere,” praises life in Dejvice, an architecture student who moved here for education.
She responded with a smile to our question about unpleasant experiences. “It seems to me that there is nothing like that here. I have never seen a homeless person here at night,” she said.
Student life is also connected to Šestka thanks to the infamous Strahov dormitories, which offer homes to hundreds of young people in the backdrop of the huge Strahov stadium. Even from here, it is very close to the center or to the already mentioned Dejvice campuses.
Do you like a walk in the forest, running or swimming?
The sixth district, however, also beckons for a quieter life. For example, in the residential area of Hanspaulka or in the vicinity of Břevnov and Bílý Hory. It is also a paradise for sportsmen and nature lovers. A large part is occupied by the Divoká Šárka nature reserve. Literally a few steps from the subway, it offers nature walks, rock formations for climbers or natural swimming pools for swimmers.
Another large green island is the Ladronka park, which is literally a paradise for runners and cyclists. In addition to the well-maintained bike path, summer festivals and cultural events are also held here. Likewise in the Hvězda Forest or in the gardens of the Břevnov monastery. All the parks are only a few hundred meters from each other.
Even the residential development has something in it
The rest of the sixth district consists mainly of residential blocks of flats typical of the outskirts of Prague. We can name, for example, Petřiny, Vokovice, Červený vrch or the estate Na Dědině. According to the locals, even those offer a peaceful life within reach of the city center. And thanks to the new tram line, which should be put into operation between Divoka Šárka and Dědina this fall, things will hopefully get even better.

“What I like about Petřiny is that it is not a busy area of Prague and I have my peace here. Thanks to good transport services, I am also relatively close to the center. There are also plenty of places for sports and cultural activities. In addition, it is the area most covered by hospital care,” describes the advantages of living in one of the Prague 6 housing estates of the student medical faculty.
Perhaps only problems with shops and planes
However, he also found negatives: “What bothers me is the limited offer of supermarkets, which until recently was provided by only one chain near the metro station with a rich assortment and several smaller ones, but with a limited offer. The improvement only came with the opening of the supermarket in Bořislavka.”
Other inconveniences can be, for example, close to Václav Havel Airport, which also falls under the sixth district. Depending on the wind, the operation of airplanes can sometimes be noisy, which the local residents confirmed to us.
But the advantages still prevail. We can warmly recommend life in Prague 6 from our own experience. This part of the city really offers everything. From natural monuments, through sports use or educational and cultural institutions to popular cafes.
