From Mirafiori to Naples with the U17 national fencing team
After the call-up of Luca JURAVLE with the Romanian U17 national team, a second “world” call arrives for an athlete from the Ramon Fonst Fencing Club of Mirafiori Sud. This time the national team is that of ITALY, and the squadmate is the teammate Matteo BORGOGNO, born in 2006. For Matteo it will be his debut in the U17 World Cup, and it will be in a match in Italy, in Naples. On this occasion he will be able to compete with athletes from 5 continents, including those of the historically rival national teams of the Italian one such as France, United States, Poland, Spain and Germany. Matteo has been practicing fencing for 7 years, when he started with the introductory course at the Club, under the guidance of Maestro Paolo CUCCU, and in his career he won a regional U14 championship and obtained important placements in national competitions. He lives in Mirafiori Sud, a few tens of meters from the gym, and is in his third year at ITI Agnelli. This good result crowns an overall good start to the season of the Club, which also saw the silver medal conquered by the team of the youngest athletes in the Boys/Young category in the Piedmontese championships last weekend, a placement which confirms that the work on the U14 competitive sector bears fruit. Luca JURAVLE will not be in Naples, because he is busy in Bucharest in the Romanian national championships, where he will be among the favorites for both the individual and team titles in the Cadet category. Before these commitments, both of our “nationals” will be on the platform in Terni this weekend, for the second national qualifying round for the Italian Cadet Championships, hunting for the pass for the tricolor races in Padua next May.
